Scalloped ribbonfish (Zu cristatus)

Fish of the Zu genus of the Trachipteridae (Ribbonfishes) family of the Taeniosomi suborder of the Lampriformes order of the Lampridiomorpha superorder.

Scalloped ribbonfish (Zu cristatus) was first described in 1819 by the Italian zoologist Franco Andrea Bonelli (1784-1830).

It is a bathypelagic species. It inhabits the depths of up to 90 meters. The maximum recorded length is 118 cm. It feeds on small fish and squid.

Several occurrences of the fish were recorded in the Adriatic Sea.
