Equulites klunzingeri

Fish of the Equulites genus of the Leiognathidae (ponyfishes, slipmouths, slimys or slimies) family of the superfamily Percoidea of the Perciformes order of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Equulites klunzingeri was first described in 1758 by the Austrian zoologist Franz Steindachner (1834-1919).

It inhabits the depths of up to 59 meters. The maximum recorded length is 11 cm. It feeds on bottom invertebrates. It entered the Mediterranean Sea through the Suez Canal from the Red Sea.

It has been found several times in the Adriatic Sea.
