Sailfin dragonet (Callionymus pusillus)

Fish of the Callionymus genus of the Callionymidae (dragonets) family of the suborder Callionymoidei of the Perciformes order of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Sailfin dragonet (Callionymus pusillus) was first described in 1809 by the French botanist and ichthyologist François Delaroche (1781-1812).

It inhabits shallow water but can sink to a depth of 100 meters. It dwells near a sandy bottom. The maximum recorded length is 14 cm, specimens up to 10 cm long are more common. It feeds on small benthic invertebrates.

It is a permanent inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea.
