Fish of the Callionymus genus of the Callionymidae (dragonets) family of the suborder Callionymoidei of the Perciformes order of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Risso’s dragonet (Callionymus risso) was first described in 1814 by the French naturalist and traveler Charles Alexandre Lesueur (1778-1846).
It inhabits the depth of 15-150 meters. It dwells near a sandy bottom. The maximum recorded length is 11 cm, specimens up to 5 cm long are more common. It feeds on small benthic invertebrates.

It is a permanent inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea.
