Fish of the Gobius genus of the Gobiinae (true gobies) subfamily of the Gobiidae family of the Gobiiformes order of the Percomorpha clade of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Slender goby (Gobius geniporus) was first described in 1837 by the French zoologist and ichthyologist Achille Valenciennes (1794-1865).
It inhabits at depths of up to 30 meters. It occurs near a sandy and silty bottom next to algae. The maximum recorded length is 16 cm. It feeds on zooplankton.

It is a permanent inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea.
