Fish of the Pomatoschistus genus of the Gobiinae (true gobies) subfamily of the Gobiidae family of the Gobiiformes order of the Percomorpha clade of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Quagga goby (Pomatoschistus quagga) was first described in 1837 by the Austrian zoologist and ichthyologist Johann Jakob Heckel (1790-1857).

It occurs near the coast in beds of underwater vegetation. The maximum recorded length is 6 cm.

It is a permanent infrequent inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea.
