Egyptian sole (Solea aegyptiaca)

Fish of the Solea genus of the Soleoidei subfamily of the Soleidae family of the Pleuronectoidei suborder of the Pleuronectiformes (flatfishes) order of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Egyptian sole (Solea aegyptiaca) was first described in 1927 by the French ichthyologist and herpetologist Paul Chabanaud (1876-1959).

It lives at the depth of up to 100 meters. It prefers to swim near a muddy and sandy bottom. The maximum recorded length is 65 cm, usually, it is up to 25 cm long. It feeds on benthic invertebrates.

It entered the Mediterranean Sea through the Suez Canal.

In rare cases, it can be observed in the southern part of the Adriatic Sea.
