Klein’s sole (Synapturichthys kleinii)

Fish of the Synapturichthys genus of the Soleoidei subfamily of the Soleidae family of the Pleuronectoidei suborder of the Pleuronectiformes (flatfishes) order of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Klein’s sole (Synapturichthys kleinii) was first described in 1827 by the French naturalist Antoine Risso (1777-1845).

It lives at the depth of 20-460 meters. It prefers to swim near the sandy and muddy bottom. The maximum recorded length is 40 cm; specimens up to 15 cm are more common. It feeds on benthic invertebrates.

It is a permanent infrequent inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea.
