Fish of the Gonostoma genus of the Gonostomatidae (bristlemouths, or lightfishes, or anglemouths) family of the Gonostomatoidei suborder of the Stomiiformes order of the Stenopterygii superorder.

Gonostoma denudatum was first described in 1810 by the American naturalist, zoologist and botanist Constantine Samuel Rafinesque (1783-1840).
Bathypelagic species. It occurs at the depth of 100-700 meters. The maximum recorded length is 14 cm. It feeds on zooplankton.

It is a permanent inhabitant of the southern part of the Adriatic Sea.
