Fish of the Ceratoscopelus genus of the Myctophidae (lanternfishes or myctophids) family of the Myctophiformes order of the Scopelomorpha superorder.

Madeira lantern fish (Ceratoscopelus maderensis) was first described in 1839 by the British priest and naturalist Richard Thomas Lowe (1802-1874).
It occurs at the depth of 51-1082 meters. Bathypelagic species. The maximum recorded length is 8.1 cm. It feeds on crustaceans.
It is a permanent inhabitant of the southern part of the Adriatic Sea.
