Fish of the Trisopterus genus of the Gadidae (сods, or true cods) family of the Gadiformes order of the Paracanthopterygii superorder.

Trisopterus capelanus was first described in 1800 by the French ichthyologist and statesman Bernard Germain de Lacépède (1756-1825).

It inhabits the depths of up to 300 meters. It swims near the muddy or sandy bottom. It is about 30 cm long. It feeds on crustaceans and small-sized fish.

It is a permanent inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea, more often found in its central part.
