Fish of the Lepidion genus of the Moridae (codlings, or hakelings, or moras) family of the Gadiformes order of the Paracanthopterygii superorder.

Mediterranean codling (Lepidion lepidion) was first described in 1810 by the French naturalist Antoine Risso (1777-1845).
It inhabits the depths of 500-2,230 meters. The maximum recorded length is 34 cm. It is a bottom-feeder.
There are single occurrences in the southern part of the Adriatic Sea. It is a poorly studied species.
