Fish of the Tylosurus genus of the Belonidae (needlefish) family of the Scomberesocoidea superfamily of the Belonoidei suborder of the Beloniformes order of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Tylosurus acus imperialis was first described in 1810 by the American naturalist, zoologist and botanist Constantine Samuel Rafinesque (1783-1840).
It is a pelagic species. Usually, it swims no deeper than 10 meters from the surface. The maximum recorded length is 140 cm. Occasionally, it comes close to the shore. It is a rare inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea. It is a poorly studied species.
