Scale-rayed wrasse (Acantholabrus palloni)

Fish of the Acantholabrus genus of the Labridae (wrasses) family of the Labroidei suborder of the Perciformes order of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Scalerayed wrasse (Acantholabrus palloni) was first described in 1810 by the French naturalist Antoine Risso (1777-1845).

It inhabits the depth of 30-500 meters. It is an inshore species, which prefers to swim close to a rocky and sandy bottom. The maximum recorded length is 25 cm. It feeds on bottom invertebrates.

It is a permanent inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea.
