Fish of the Gammogobius genus of the Gobiinae (true gobies) subfamily of the Gobiidae family of the Gobiiformes order of the Percomorpha clade of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Steinitz‘s goby (Gammogobius steinitzi) was first described in 1971 by the German ichthyologist Hans Bath.
It inhabits the depth of 2-15 meters. It occurs near the coast in underwater grottoes. The maximum recorded length is 3.8 cm.

It is a rare species. It is an inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea.
