Fish of the Cubiceps genus of the Nomeidae (driftfishes) family of the Stromateoidei suborder of the Scombriformes order of the Percomorpha clade of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Driftfish (Cubiceps gracilis) was first described in 1843 by the British priest and naturalist Richard Thomas Lowe (1802-1874).
It is a pelagic species. It inhabits the depths of up to 300 meters. The maximum recorded length is 100 cm. It feeds on salps.
It is a rare species. It is an inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea.
