Fish of the Echiodon genus of the subfamily Carapinae of the Carapidae family of the Ophidiiformes order of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Echiodon dentatus was first described in 1829 by the French naturalist and zoologist Georges Cuvier (1769-1832).
It inhabits the depths of 120-3,250 meters. The maximum recorded length is 17 cm.

It is more often found in the southern part of the Adriatic Sea. It’s a rare species.
