Prespa trout (Salmo peristericus)

Fish of the Salmo genus of the Salmoninae subfamily of the Salmonidae family of the Salmoniformes order of the Protacanthopterygii superorder.

Prespa trout (Salmo peristericus) was first described in 1938 by the Macedonian biologist Stanko L. Karaman (1889 – 1959). It’s the inhabitant of small fast-flowing rivers and oxygenated water. The recorded maximum length is 35 cm.

It’s the endemic of tributaries of Lake Prespa (Albania, Greece, Macedonia).

It is listed in IUCN Red List as an endangered species (EN).
