Fish of the Lestidiops genus of the Paralepididae (barracudinas) family of the Alepisauroidei suborder of the Aulopiformes order of the Cyclosquamata superorder.

Lestidiops sphyrenoides was first described in 1820 by the French naturalist Antoine Risso (1777-1845).

It is a bathypelagic species. It inhabits the depths of 50-600 meters. The maximum recorded length is 27 cm. It feeds on fish, crustaceans and planktonic organisms.

This fish occur in the southern part of the Adriatic Sea. It is a rare species.
