Paralepis speciosa

Fish of the Paralepis genus of the Paralepididae (barracudinas) family of the Alepisauroidei suborder of the Aulopiformes order of the Cyclosquamata superorder.

Paralepis speciosa was first described in 1878 by the Italian ichthyologist and paleontologist Cristoforo Bellotti (1823-1919). It inhabits the depths of up to 1,000 meters. It is about 12 cm long. It feeds on fish, crustaceans and planktonic organisms.

It is the endemic of the Mediterranean Sea, found in the southern part of the Adriatic. It is a rare poorly studied species.
