Spotted lanternfish (Myctophum punctatum)

Fish of the Myctophum genus of the Myctophidae (lanternfishes or myctophids) family of the Myctophiformes order of the Scopelomorpha superorder.

Spotted lanternfish (Myctophum punctatum) was first described described for the first time in 1810 by the American naturalist, zoologist and botanist Constantine Samuel Rafinesque (1783-1840).

Bathypelagic species. It occurs at the depth of 0-1000 meters. The maximum recorded length is 11 cm. It feeds on crustaceans.

It is a permanent inhabitant of the southern part of the Adriatic Sea.
