Fish of the Symbolophorus genus of the Myctophidae (lanternfishes or myctophids) family of the Myctophiformes order of the Scopelomorpha superorder.

Large-scale lantern fish (Symbolophorus veranyi) was first described by the French ichthyologist Émil Moreau in 1888.

Bathypelagic species. It occurs at the depth of 0-800 meters. The maximum recorded length is 12 cm. It feeds on crustaceans.

It is a permanent inhabitant of the southern part of the Adriatic Sea.
