Black Sea salmon (Salmo labrax)

Fish of the Salmo genus of the Salmoninae subfamily of the Salmonidae family of the Salmoniformes order of the Protacanthopterygii superorder.

Black Sea salmon (Salmo labrax) was first described in 1814 by the Prussian and Russian zoologist Peter Simon Pallas (1741 – 1811). The recorded maximum length is 75 cm. It’s the inhabitant of the Black Sea basin, in which it generates a sea form. Besides, it generates lake and river forms. It feeds on invertebrates and fishes.

It’s a rare inhabitant of European freshwater bodies. In particular, it inhabits the Lim River and Lake Plav (Montenegro).
