Common Atlantic grenadier (Nezumia aequalis) was first described in 1878 by the German zoologist Albert Günter (1830-1914).
It inhabits the depths of 200-2,320 meters, usually 200-1,000 meters. The maximum recorded length is 36 cm; specimens up to 25 cm long are more common. It feeds on shrimps and crustaceans.
