Roche’s snake blenny (Ophidion rochei)

Fish of the Ophidion genus of the subfamily Ophidiinae of the Ophidiidae (brotulas, or cusk-eels) family of the Ophidiiformes order of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Roches snake blenny (Ophidion rochei) was first described in 1845 by the German zoologist Johannes Peter Müller (1801-1858).

It inhabits the depths of 1-150 meters. The maximum recorded length is 29.3 cm. It feeds on zooplankton. It is nocturnal, hides during the day, buried in the sand.

It’s a permanent inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea.
