Fish of the Microlipophrys genus of the Blenniidae (combtooth blennies) family of the Blenniiformes (blenny) order of the Ovalentaria clade of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Black–headed blenny (Microlipophrys nigriceps) was first described in 1928 by the Italian physicist and ichthyologist Decio Vinciguerra (1856-1934).
It inhabits at depths of up to 6 meters. The maximum recorded length is 4.3 cm. It feeds on small invertebrates and algae.

It is a permanent inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea.
