Fish of the Vanneaugobius genus of the Gobiinae (true gobies) subfamily of the Gobiidae family of the Gobiiformes order of the Percomorpha clade of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Vanneaugobius dollfusi was first described in 1978 by the ichthyologist Charles L. Brownell.

It inhabits at depths of up to 115 meters. It occurs near a sandy, silty and hard bottom. The maximum recorded length is 4 cm.

It is a rare little-studied species.

In the Adriatic Sea, this species is found off the coast of Croatia.
