Armless snake eel (Dalophis imberbis)

Fish of the Dalophis genus of the Ophichthinae subfamily of the Ophichthidae (snake eels) family of the Congroidei suborder of the Anguilliformes (eels) order of the Elopomorpha superorder.

Armless snake eel (Dalophis imberbis) was first described in 1809 by the French botanist and ichthyologist François Delaroche (1781-1812).

It occurs at the depth of 20-80 meters, hiding in burrows in the sandy, argillaceous and muddy bottom. The maximum recorded length is 150 cm.

It is a bottom-feeder. It is a permanent rare inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea. The species is poorly studied.
